Swimming? Art? Music? What a way to learn to read! The Starfish Academy at Lowe's YMCA treats its young first and second graders to six weeks of fun and learning. The students are selected by their school principal and teachers for being at risk of falling below the read level of their school grade. Children in the program attend a six-week summer day camp, where they get help with their reading from certified teachers. The Academy is free to the children's family--it is paid for through charitable contributions.
